PRIMARY CARE

Stay Healthy at Oakview Medical Associates

What is primary care?

Primary care is general medical care which includes pediatrics, adult care for men and women, and geriatric care. It provides care for when you are sick and to help you prevent disease. Dr. Bijoor is passionate about developing long-term relationships with her patients. She will get to know you, your medical history, your family background and all the factors that influence your health.

Through all stages of life, Dr. Bijoor treats and manages acute and chronic needs. If you ever need to see a specialist, Dr. Bijoor will coordinate your care with specialty providers.

As a board certified family physician, Dr. Bijoor can treat your whole family — from kids to seniors — for a multitude of needs, such as diabetes, hypertension, weight loss, sudden illness, infections, thyroid problems, and injuries. If our medical assessment indicates the need to refer you to a specialist, we will appropriately refer you and still arrange follow up care with us after your specialist evaluation as we serve as your primary medical home.

When should I see my primary care physician?

Ideally, you should see Dr. Bijoor once a year for a routine physical and checkup. Annual exams are the best way to prevent disease or catch it early when it’s most treatable.

In addition to preventive appointments, you can come in when you’re sick, need lab work, or have an urgent need. If you need to discuss or address a medical problem at your scheduled physical preventive exam appointment, we will address your medical problem and reschedule your preventive annual physical as both cannot be addressed the same day and are considered two separate medical benefits /appointments per insurance plans. If the medical problem can be addressed at another appointment, you will be asked to schedule another appointment for that medical need. This will be based on what your provider decides is best for you. If you have a health insurance policy and you would like to use your insurance plan benefit at your doctor’s appointment, please know your specific health insurance plan benefit. Most insurance plans have high deductibles and require you to pay for your office visit. Our practice policy requires payments towards copay, coinsurance and deductibles to be paid at check- in. Your insurance will then be filed for the service provided and you may then have an additional payment responsibility towards the service provided to you at our practice. Some insurance plans do not cover annual physicals even though they recommend one annually. They mean that your plan policy will not cover it. Just like the usual car insurance does not cover the cost of gas you fill in your car regularly or the oil maintenance that is required. Please know your insurance plan well. It is your financial responsibility whether your plan covers or does not cover the service. Your insurance benefit is between you and the plan provided to you usually by your employer or the government health plans, as the case may be.

Do I really need an annual exam?

Yes. The best way to keep on top of your health and protect your quality of life is to get an annual exam. If a problem is developing, Dr. Bijoor and your providers at Oakview Medical Associates can catch and treat it before it can have detrimental effects on your overall well-being.

Even if you’re in good health, it’s important to analyze your vitals, blood panels, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure once a year.
