Stay Healthy at Oakview Medical Associates

What is primary care?

Primary care is general medical care which includes pediatrics, adult care for men and women, and geriatric care. It provides care for when you are sick and to help you prevent disease. Dr. Bijoor is passionate about developing long-term relationships with her patients. She will get to know you, your medical history, your family background and all the factors that influence your health.

Through all stages of life, Dr. Bijoor treats and manages acute and chronic needs. If you ever need to see a specialist, Dr. Bijoor will coordinate your care with specialty providers.

As a board-certified family physician, Dr. Bijoor can treat your whole family — from kids to seniors — for a multitude of needs, such as diabetes, hypertension, weight loss, sudden illness, infections, thyroid problems, and injuries. If our medical assessment indicates the need to refer you to a specialist, we will appropriately refer you and still arrange follow up care with us after your specialist evaluation as we serve as your primary medical home.

When should I see my primary care physician?

We recommend seeing Dr. Bijoor once a year for a routine physical.

Annual exams help prevent illness and catch problems early when they're most treatable.

You can also visit us when you're sick, need lab work, or have an urgent issue.

Please note: insurance considers a physical and a visit for a medical problem as two separate appointments. If you need to address a medical concern during your annual physical, we may need to reschedule one of the visits.

If you're using insurance, be sure to understand your plan’s coverage. Many plans have high deductibles and may not fully cover your visit— even for routine physicals. Our policy requires payment for copays, deductibles, and coinsurance at check-in. After your visit, your insurance will be billed, and you may receive a bill for any remaining balance.

Think of it like car insurance— it doesn’t pay for regular maintenance like gas or oil changes. Similarly, not all health plans cover routine checkups. It’s your responsibility to know what your plan covers.

Do I really need an annual exam?

Yes. The best way to keep on top of your health and protect your quality of life is to get an annual exam. If a problem is developing, Dr. Bijoor and your providers at Oakview Medical Associates can catch and treat it before it can have detrimental effects on your overall well-being.

Even if you’re in good health, it’s important to analyze your vitals, blood panels, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure once a year.
